(9 miles / 3 - 4 hours)
From Kingshouse the Way proceeds North West along Glencoe, initially following the route of the A82 road. About 1 mile up from Kingshouse the route begins to climb out of the Glen and follows a zig zag path known as the Devil's staircase. This is the steepest ascent of The Way however with some breaks even less able walkers should be able to complete this. At the top of the Devil's staircase you get excellent views of Glencoe. The Way proceeds onwards towards Kinlochleven which is situated around the next hill and at the foot of a very long access road built for the aluminium smelter plant that used to exist here. Very large pipes take water from a Loch in the hills to drive the turbines in what is now a power station. After seeing many small towns since you left Drymen you will be happy to arrive in Kinlochleven - a medium sized town with many hotels, guest houses and pubs. A good place to stop for the night or for some quick refreshments.
