(16 miles / 5 - 6 hours)
From Kinlochleven The Way starts from the North of the town on the B863 road. The Way climbs up from this road and into a valley that opens up between the hills. At the foot of the valley you get excellent views of Loch Leven and Kinlochleven. From here the Way proceeds along the valley and passes a number of abandoned buildings. The path is good though perhaps your feet are not so after the past 80 miles of walking! The route continues to the end of the valley and then turns a corner heading towards a forest section. There are a number of forest sections the last one being the most prolonged before you emerge in the hills around Fort William. You descend into Fort William via Glen Nevis with Ben Nevis (the tallest mountain in Great Britain) on your right hand side. Many walkers of the West Highland Way choose to stay an extra night or two in Fort William and climb Ben Nevis. However climbing Ben Nevis should not be undertaken lightly and it is essential that you have the right equipment with you even in the summer months. Once you've descended the hill towards Fort William the last part of the walk is along a road into the centre of the town. Congratulations, you've done it!
